Jayant Patil criticizes the government over the MPSC paper leak scandal; political leaders back students' protest
Pune: The ongoing student protest in Pune against the MPSC exam paper leak received support from political leaders last night. NCP leader Jayant Patil, Tushar Gandhi (grandson of Mahatma Gandhi), Rohini Khadse, and Rohit Patil, among others, visited the protest site to back the students' demands.
Jayant Patil said, "Paper leaks are a clear sign of MPSC's lax administration. Such incidents did not occur in the past. Why is the Chief Minister unwilling to seek the MPSC Chairman's resignation? We will raise this issue in the legislature. When people take to the streets, the government ought to show wisdom; otherwise, it collapses quickly. The protest will continue until the government yields. We will stand firmly with you."
Praising the students, Tushar Gandhi stated that those protesting to secure justice for competitive exam aspirants are making history. They are in no way inferior to freedom fighters. It is not just the officials who must resign; the government must be held accountable too. Those currently in power are looting the public while cloaking themselves in the guise of democracy. I congratulate you for taking to the streets against such an oppressive government.
Rohit Patil remarked, "I am the son of the Home Minister who eradicated Naxalism in Gadchiroli. Just because I have joined this protest today, I could well be branded a Naxalite. It is disheartening that exams cannot be conducted transparently in the land of Mahatma Gandhi. Those who sow discord while protesting or offering support do not even understand the meaning of MPSC."
Actor Kiran Mane stated that action must be taken against those responsible for the paper leak. "Test knowledge, not patience," he said. Rohini Khadse said, “Yours is a fight for justice. We will fight and we will win.”
The students have resolved to continue the agitation until the government yields. Their main demands are the resignation of the MPSC Chairman and the conduct of transparent examinations.
