Dombivli, May 20, 2025: A shocking incident has come to light in which land mafias illegally occupied land in Dombivali, which is in the name of the heirs of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, and erected an eight-storey building. Tulshiram Kalan and Lalit Mahajan constructed this land, located in Davadi village near Shilphata Road, without taking any legal permission. This case has spread a wave of anger among the local citizens, and the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has finally started taking strict steps.
This land is registered in the names of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's direct heirs, Yashwant Bhimrao Ambedkar, Prakash Ambedkar, Anandraj Ambedkar, Bhimrao Ambedkar and Ramatai Teltumbde. Still, the land mafia grabbed the land on the basis of fake documents and built unauthorized construction on it. Republican Sena KDMC President Anant Navsagare had drawn the attention of the municipality to this matter since 2022. However, no concrete action was taken by the administration initially, which emboldened the land mafia.
Taking cognizance of the serious nature of the matter, the KDMC has now declared this unauthorized building illegal. Additional Commissioner of the municipality Yogesh Godse said, "The matter will be thoroughly investigated and legal action will be taken immediately." The municipality had ordered the builders to submit land ownership and permission documents, but they did not submit any legal documents. Therefore, the municipality has started preparations to demolish this building.
Local citizens and social activists have expressed strong displeasure over the matter. "Encroachment on the land of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's heirs is not only a legal crime, but also a social injustice," said a local activist. The KDMC's action is expected to curb the land mafia. However, given the history of such actions being delayed in the past due to administrative laxity, everyone's attention is on how successful this action by the municipality will actually be.
