Luxury car scam: Former mayor Lalit Kolhe's fraud trap exposed! Mumbai police ready to take him into custody, 14 lakhs duped
Jalgaon: Mumbai police are eyeing former mayor and former Shiv Sena leader Lalit Kolhe in another fraud case. Kolhe, who is currently in Nashik jail for cybercrime and running a bogus call center, is accused of cheating a Mumbai youth of Rs 14 lakh by luring him to buy a luxury car cheaply. Mumbai police will soon apply to the court to take him into custody.
The case started when a Mumbai youth saw an online advertisement to buy a luxury car. Kolhe and his accomplices had created a web of deception. They contacted the youth saying that a luxury car worth Rs 68 lakh was available for only Rs 38 lakh. To make him believe, they showed fake documents, photos of the car and a conversation with the dealer. The youth trusted and paid Rs 14 lakh in the name of various charges, but the car was not delivered and the connection was lost.
Police investigation revealed that Kolhe was running a bogus call centre in Mumbai, through which such frauds were being woven. It has been proven in an earlier case that this call centre is mainly used for cyber fraud. The cyber crime unit in Jalgaon had raided Kolhe's farmhouse and exposed this call centre, from which he was arrested.
According to Mumbai police, this case is not limited to just one fraud, but there is a possibility of a bigger scam. Other victims are also likely to come forward. Kolhe will be taken into custody and further investigation will be conducted, in which his accomplices will also be questioned.
This case has shed light on the cyber crime network in Jalgaon and Mumbai. The police have warned citizens to be wary of such cheap deals.
