MVA Stages Major Protest in Sambhajinagar for Farm Loan Waivers; Police Detain Leaders Including Supriya Sule and Rohit Pawar

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, June 30, 2026: The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) staged a massive protest in Sambhajinagar today, demanding—among other things—a blanket waiver of farm loans. During the agitation, police detained several prominent leaders, including MP Supriya Sule, MLA Rohit Pawar, and former minister Rajesh Tope.
The protest was organized at Cambridge Chowk on the Sambhajinagar-Jalna Highway. Led by MLA Rohit Pawar, the event saw a large turnout of Sharadchandra Pawar Party workers from Marathwada, Congress State President Harshvardhan Sapkal, MP Kalyan Kale, and other MVA leaders, clearly demonstrating opposition unity.
The protesters asserted that "street-level agitation is more crucial than the legislative session for securing a blanket loan waiver for farmers." Rohit Pawar also warned of a major future protest against the TET paper leak scandal.
Arches resembling fort ramparts were erected at the protest site. A special 'Halgi' (traditional drum) troupe was brought in from Karmala to boost the protesters' morale. The area reverberated with slogans of farmer unity and the rhythmic beats of the drums. Women held placards demanding the withdrawal of stringent conditions attached to the loan waiver.
Police Deployment: In view of the protest, heavy security arrangements were made, involving over 500 police personnel (including reserve forces) and dozens of vehicles.
Earlier, during Rohit Pawar's hunger strike in Pandharpur, the government had promised to hold positive discussions regarding the loan waiver on June 22. However, protesters accused the government of deceiving the farmers by failing to hold any such discussions. MVA leaders criticized the government for committing the ‘sin’ of reducing the number of beneficiaries in the loan waiver scheme by imposing stringent conditions, much like in the ‘Ladki Bahin’ scheme.
This agitation is being viewed as a significant step taken by the Maha Vikas Aghadi to address farmers' issues.
