Maharashtra Budget 2026: Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train to run in 2027; CM Fadnavis' important announcement
Mumbai, March 6, 2026: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis gave important information about the completion of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project in the 2026 state budget presented today. Fadnavis said that the first phase, including three stations on the Thane to Talsari route, will be completed by the end of 2027. This will make the travel distance between Mumbai and Ahmedabad complete in just 2 hours and 7 minutes and trains will be available every 30 minutes.
Speaking during the budget presentation, CM Fadnavis said, "The work of the Bullet Train is progressing rapidly in Gujarat and the first phase will be inaugurated soon. Economic benefits will be reaped by developing the areas around Virar, Boisar and Thane stations in Maharashtra." The first phase of passenger services will start on August 15, 2027 on the Surat to Bilimora route, followed by expansion to Vapi-Surat, Vapi-Ahmedabad and finally Mumbai-Ahmedabad.
Although the budget does not include direct expenditure on this project, there are significant provisions for other rail and road development projects. Mumbai Urban Transport Project 3B has been approved at a cost of Rs 14,907 crore, of which the state government has a 50 per cent share. This includes 69 km of new suburban rail corridors: Badlapur-Karjat, Asangaon-Kasara and Panvel-Vasai.
In addition, the Pune-Lonavala three-four road project has been approved at a cost of Rs 5,100 crore. This project will directly benefit industrial areas like Pimpri Chinchwad, Akurdi and Talegaon. A total of four rail corridors have been approved, all of which will give priority to industrial zones.
Fadnavis said that these announcements will revolutionise the transport system in Maharashtra and accelerate the economic development of the state.
