Maharashtra Legislative Council Election 2026: Mahayuti Wins 16 Out of 17 Seats; MVA Faces Total Defeat

Mumbai, June 22, 2026: The Mahayuti alliance has secured a landslide victory in the elections held for 17 Legislative Council seats representing local self-government bodies in the state. Mahayuti won 16 seats, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) failed to secure a single seat. However, an independent candidate dealt a major blow to Mahayuti in the Nashik constituency.
The election results were announced today. Mahayuti had already won 6 of these seats unopposed. Voting for the remaining 11 seats took place on June 18. The BJP contested 11 seats and won all of them, while the Shinde faction won 3 out of the 4 seats it contested. The Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP won 2 seats. One seat was secured by an independent candidate.
