Mahindra’s Mega Project in Butibori, Nagpur: 800 Acres Acquired, 6 Lakh-Unit Capacity; A Major Opportunity for Employment and Skill Development
Nagpur: The process of acquiring approximately 800 acres of land for the first phase of Mahindra & Mahindra’s massive integrated automobile and tractor manufacturing plant in Butibori, near Nagpur, is now underway. This greenfield project, which will span a total of 1,500 acres, is set to become the largest industrial project in the Vidarbha region. Once fully operational, the facility will have an annual production capacity of 6 lakh units—comprising over 5 lakh vehicles and 1 lakh tractors—making it Mahindra’s largest integrated manufacturing hub in the country. The project will encompass the production of vehicles with internal combustion engines (ICE), electric vehicles, and technologies for the future. Supplier Park and Skill Development Center
To support the Nagpur project, a 150-acre ‘Supplier Park’ will be established in Sambhajinagar. This park will supply components not only to the Nagpur facility but also to Mahindra’s existing plants in Chakan and Nashik. Additionally, there are plans to set up a dedicated skill development center in Nagpur, which will provide training in areas such as mechanical operations, welding, painting, and other manufacturing-related skills. Over the next two to three years, the company will also offer its experienced employees from existing plants the opportunity to participate in the selection process for roles at the new facility. Candidates will be evaluated based on their technical proficiency, behavioral traits, and alignment with the company’s core values. Investment and Employment
The company has already announced an investment of approximately ?15,000 crore for this project. Although the exact number of new jobs has not yet been announced, the company will provide information regarding manpower requirements and available opportunities as the project progresses. This is expected to generate a significant number of direct and indirect employment opportunities in the Vidarbha region. Mahindra’s mega-project will provide a major boost to the industrial development of Nagpur and Vidarbha, while also strengthening the state government’s ‘Make in Maharashtra’ initiative and its policies for the development of the Vidarbha region.
