Mahua Moitra Clarifies: Will Oppose BJP Until Death; Shares Emotional Bond with Suvendu Adhikari

New Delhi/Kolkata, June 25, 2026: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Mahua Moitra has clearly articulated her stance regarding internal party rifts and speculations about joining the BJP in an interview with BBC Hindi. Following the defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, a deep schism has emerged within the TMC, with several MLAs and MPs forming a separate faction and challenging Mamata Banerjee. Against this backdrop, Moitra criticized the rebel leaders.
Moitra said, "If there were issues within the party, they should have discussed them with the leadership. When I faced difficulties, I spoke to Mamata-di and resolved them. Those who left the party after the defeat have stabbed the party in the back."
Dismissed Possibility of Joining BJP
When asked about the possibility of joining the BJP during the interview, Moitra firmly denied it. "I have dedicated my life and youth to politics. I believe in a secular India where progress is achieved by taking everyone along. However, the BJP is spreading religious poison and dividing the country. I will continue to oppose the BJP as long as I am alive. As long as the BJP is in power, the India we know will cease to exist," she declared.
Spoke of Emotional Bond with Suvendu Adhikari
Moitra mentioned her personal friendship with BJP leader and West Bengal Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari. "On a personal level, Suvendu remains a good friend of mine. He stood by me during the Karimpur election. When I was in tears after not receiving a Lok Sabha ticket in 2014, Suvendu said, 'I am with you.' These are emotional bonds. The fact that we don't speak now because he is in a different party is a separate matter," Moitra said. Moitra also emphasized her emotional bond with the party and affirmed her loyalty to Mamata Didi.
This interview sheds light on the current internal discord within the TMC and future political developments. Mahua Moitra is currently considered one of Mamata's trusted leaders.
