Major Agitation in the State If Farmers' Issues Are Not Taken Seriously! Shashikant Shinde Issues a Stern Warning to the Government
Mumbai: Shashikant Shinde, the State President of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar faction), has issued a clear warning to the Maharashtra government. He warned that if injustice is meted out to farmers, a massive agitation will erupt across the state, and the situation will deteriorate further.
Speaking to the media in Mumbai, Shashikant Shinde stated, "The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) staged an aggressive, statewide agitation demanding fair prices for onions within the state and improvements in export policies. Roadblock protests (*Rasta Roko*), marches, and demonstrations were organized in various regions, including Nashik, Sambhajinagar, Junnar, and Otur. Consequently, the government was compelled to travel to Delhi to present the farmers' case."
Shinde further added, "If farmers face injustice, a massive wave of anti-government sentiment will sweep across Maharashtra. If the Chief Minister dismisses these agitations as mere 'political stunts,' the opposition is left with no choice but to take to the streets. The government itself is solely responsible for this situation."
**Criticism Regarding Issues Concerning Onions, Sugarcane, and Sugar**
Shashikant Shinde also criticized the government's over-reliance on Delhi. "Those who once criticized the Congress party for having decisions dictated from Delhi are now themselves running to Delhi. To resolve issues concerning Maharashtra, the state's own leaders must possess the necessary political clout," he remarked.
Noting that the farmers' agitation has exerted significant pressure on the government, Shinde asserted that the protests organized by the Maha Vikas Aghadi amplified the magnitude of the onion crisis, thereby compelling the government to take concrete measures for the benefit of the farmers.
This development has become a major topic of discussion among farmers' organizations and within the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance. The ruling parties have not yet issued an official response regarding this matter.
