Major Blow to AAP! 7 Rajya Sabha MPs Merge with BJP

New Delhi: An event causing a major sensation in the country's political landscape has come to light. In a massive blow to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), seven of its ten Rajya Sabha MPs have decided to merge with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). As a result of this decision, AAP's strength in Parliament has diminished significantly.
These MPs include Raghav Chadha, Sandeep Pathak, Ashok Mittal, Harbhajan Singh, Swati Maliwal, Vikram Sahney, and Rajinder Gupta.
Internal party dissent and dissatisfaction regarding the leadership have emerged as the reasons behind this decision. Some MPs have also alleged that AAP is deviating from its core ideology.
?? The Legal Aspect
According to the Tenth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, if at least two-thirds of a political party's MPs decide to merge with another party, they are not subject to disqualification. In this instance, since 7 out of the 10 MPs have taken this decision, it may be considered a "valid merger."
????? Political Implications
This development has bolstered the strength of the BJP and the NDA in the Rajya Sabha, while diminishing AAP's presence.
This is being viewed as a major political setback for AAP, particularly given its potential impact on the party's politics in Punjab.
Conversely, reacting strongly to this decision, AAP has indicated its intention to approach the Rajya Sabha Chairman to seek the disqualification of these MPs.
