Major Blow to Ramdev's Patanjali from Mundhe's FDA! Action Taken Against Misleading Ayurvedic Medicines

Major FDA Crackdown in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar; Stock of Medicines from Three Companies, Including Patanjali, Seized
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A new phase has emerged in the ongoing crackdown against misleading advertisements, led by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe. The FDA conducted a raid on a medicine retailer in the Sindhi Colony area of ??Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and seized a stock of medicines belonging to three Ayurvedic companies, including Patanjali's Divya Pharmacy.
This action was initiated under the provisions of the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. During this operation, a stock of medicines worth approximately ?20,000 was seized. Across the entire Marathwada region, the total value of medicines seized so far has reached ?92,000.
**Simultaneous Action Across Six Districts**
FDA Assistant Commissioner Viraj Pavnikar stated that a simultaneous inspection drive was conducted across six districts: Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, and Latur. As part of this drive, action was taken regarding medicines produced by three manufacturing companies, including Divya Pharmacy.
Pavnikar remarked, "The law does not permit the use of misleading claims or terminology in the advertisements for medicines. Such enforcement actions will continue in the future whenever such violations are detected."
**Manpower Shortage**
During the operation, Officer Pavnikar also highlighted the issue of manpower shortages within the department. Since there is currently only one Drug Inspector active in the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar division, the Assistant Commissioner himself is compelled to personally lead and participate in these enforcement operations. Appeal to Citizens
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has appealed to citizens not to consume any Ayurvedic or other medicines without a doctor's advice or a medical prescription. Further legal action regarding the seized medicines is currently underway.
This operation has become a subject of widespread discussion across the state, making it evident that the FDA has adopted a strict stance against misleading advertisements.
