Massive fortune unearthed at engineer's home! ?2 crore cash, 300g gold, 5 buildings, and 13 plots seized

Bhubaneswar/Baliguda (Odisha): The Odisha Vigilance Department uncovered a major scam on Saturday (June 6, 2026) after conducting raids at nine locations linked to a government engineer. Assets worth a fortune were found in the possession of Assistant Executive Engineer Baikuntha Nath Behera, including ?2 crore in cash, over 300 grams of gold, five buildings, and thirteen high-value plots. The raiding officials were left stunned by the sheer scale of the accumulated wealth.
Vigilance officials carried out the operation at the premises of Engineer Baikuntha Nath Behera in Baliguda, Kandhamal district. Behera faced allegations of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. During the raids, ?2 crore in cash was seized from two bank lockers. Officials were astonished by the massive amount, and a cash-counting machine had to be brought from the bank to count the currency notes. Both lockers were registered in the name of the engineer's wife.
List of assets:
5 Buildings: These include luxurious buildings in Bhubaneswar's Niladri Vihar, Shailashree Vihar, Kanan Vihar, and Chandrasekharpur areas, as well as a building on ancestral land in Jajpur district.
13 Plots: 7 plots in Bhubaneswar, 5 in Jajpur, and 1 in Baripada.
Gold: Over 300 grams.

He was promoted to Assistant Engineer in 2016 and subsequently to the post of Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) in February 2026. An inquiry is now underway into how such immense wealth was amassed in such a short period.
