Miraj Railway Station: Female Clerk Faces Sexual Harassment and Casteist Insults; 'Atrocities Act' Case Registered Against Two Engineers
Miraj (Dist. Sangli) – The Miraj Railway Police have registered a case against two engineers for the alleged sexual harassment, casteist insults, and threats of transfer directed at a female railway clerk.
The accused engineers are Sandipkumar Shambhu Sharan Mishra (53, resident of Sundarnagar, Miraj) and Yuvraj Swami (45, C&W Office, Miraj Railway Station).
According to the complainant, both officers subjected her to sexually suggestive remarks and misconduct during office hours. She had lodged a written complaint with the railway administration. Following an inquiry, one officer was transferred to Pune, while the woman was assigned to field duty.
It is alleged that while she was working in the field, the officer-in-charge, Sandipkumar Mishra, subjected her to casteist insults. Additionally, the complaint states that Yuvraj Swami threatened her, saying, "An officer was transferred because of your complaint; if you don't listen to us, I will have you transferred to a remote, desolate location."
The woman stated that this harassment had been ongoing since November 26, 2025, occurring at both the office and the field work site. Distressed by the harassment, she complained to senior railway officials and the State Women's Commission. When no appropriate action was taken, she finally approached the Miraj Railway Police.
Based on her complaint, a case has been registered against Mishra and Swami under relevant sections, including charges related to the Atrocities Act and outraging the modesty of a woman. The Sub-Divisional Police Officer from Solapur is conducting further investigations into the matter.
