Mumbai-Pune Expressway to reduce travel time by half an hour due to ‘missing link’

Pune, July 12, 2025: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Saturday that once the ‘missing link project’ on the Yashwantrao Chavan Mumbai-Pune Expressway is completed, the travel distance between Mumbai and Pune will be reduced by about six kilometers and the travel time will be reduced by about half an hour. This project will benefit the passengers a lot.
Fadnavis inspected the project in Khopoli, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. He said that this project will eliminate traffic congestion caused by the Ghat Road and make travel safer and easier. “Once this project is completed, this expressway will make travel more comfortable. It includes a total of three tunnels, one of which is 9 kilometers long and 23 meters wide, which will be the longest tunnel in the country and will break the record of the Samruddhi Highway tunnel,” he said.
The Chief Minister further said that the project will also include a 185-metre high bridge, which will be the highest bridge in India and will be a record-breaking achievement. “The Missing Link project on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway is an engineering marvel,” Fadnavis asserted.
The project has been designed to reduce travel time and distance, increase traffic safety and remove bottlenecks at the ghats. This is expected to make travel between Mumbai and Pune faster and more comfortable.
