Mumbaikars are aggressive against the closure of Prabhadevi Bridge, protesting on the streets

Prabhadevi Bridge: Prabhadevi Bridge, one of the oldest bridges in Mumbai, will be closed from midnight today (April 25). This decision is being widely opposed by locals. The work of Elphinstone Bridge will have a major impact on the lives of residents of 19 buildings. Therefore, a large number of locals have taken to the streets to oppose this work.
These residents are demanding that the government take a proper stand regarding the rehabilitation of the locals. Therefore, the locals blocked the road before the bridge was closed. The administration was putting up barricades to close this bridge. The locals opposed it.
Prabhadevi's Elphinstone Bridge was built in 1913 during the British rule. The bridge was named after Governor Lord Elphinstone during the rule of the East India Company. This bridge is between Prabhadevi and Lower Parel. It is an important link to connect the two railway lines. The bridge was built with the intention of lasting 200 years.
This route will remain closed for the next year. Therefore, the traffic here will be changed for the year. However, due to this, passengers may have to face some difficulties.
A 4.5 km long Sewri-Worli connector is being built to transport vehicles coming from Atal Setu to Worli at a faster speed. Through this project, the administration has prepared a plan to connect Atal Setu, Worli-Bandra Sea Link and Coastal Road. The new elevated route Sewri-Worli will pass through the Prabhadevi flyover connecting Prabhadevi and Parel railway stations. However, since the Prabhadevi flyover is old, the MMRDA has decided to demolish this bridge and build a new double-decker bridge in its place to extend the elevated road.
Which route will be used?
The administration has instructed to use the Tilak Bridge to go towards Dadar West and Dadar Market. The administration has also advised to use the Curry Road Bridge to go towards Prabhadevi and Lower Parel. The administration has also advised to use the Chinchpokli Bridge to go towards Prabhadevi, Worli and Coastal Road. The administration has also instructed to use the Curry Road Bridge to go towards Tata Hospital and KEM Hospital.
