Nagpuri initiative to save electricity 'Pournima Day' - Dayashankar Tiwari
Nagpur, Dec 23: The bright light of the full moon is the remover of darkness. Seeing that turning off unnecessary lights on this day can save a lot of electricity, the Municipal Corporation, in collaboration with Green Whistle, started raising awareness. Public participation began to increase. Millions of units of electricity were saved. Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari stated that this is an initiative of Nagpurites in the true sense of the word and this initiative has become known in the country as 'Pournima Divas'.
He was speaking on the occasion of 'Pournima Divas' organized by Nagpur Municipal Corporation and Green Whistle Foundation at Laxmi Bhuvan Chowk on Sunday. On this occasion, former mayor Pvt. Anil Sole, Dharampeth Zone Chairman Sunil Hiranwar, Corporator Amar Bagade were present. Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari lauded and congratulated the Green Vigil volunteers and Municipal Corporation staff for reviving the initiative after the Corona period. Former mayor and former MLA Pvt. Anil Sole explained the background behind this initiative. He said that due to the participation of the people of Nagpur and the untiring efforts of Green Vigil, this project is going ahead successfully and effectively.
Municipal Corporation and Green Vigil jointly appeal to the people of Nagpur to turn off unnecessary electricity lights between 8 and 9 pm on every full moon day. In addition, Green Vigil volunteers are conducting awareness campaigns in and around the city. Merchants are urged to turn off unnecessary electric lights. Accordingly, on Sunday at Laxmi Bhuvan Chowk, Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari, Municipal Commissioner Radhakrishnan b. Under his guidance, team leaders Surabhi Jaiswal, Mehul Kosurkar, Bishnudev Yadav, Vikas Yadav, Shriya Joge, Ashwini Dable and others, led by Kaustabh Chatterjee, Founder President of Green Whistle Foundation, urged traders and citizens to turn off their lights at their establishments and homes for an hour. Traders and citizens participated in this initiative by turning off the electric lights. Some street lights were also turned off on behalf of the corporation. Some traders promised to turn off unnecessary electricity for one hour every full moon night.
At this time, the executive engineer of the corporation's electrical department A. S. Mankar, G.M. Tarapure, Sachin Fate were present.
