Three Significant Government Decisions for the Holistic Development of Tribal Communities; Special Packages for the Pardhi and Primitive Tribal Groups, and Enhancements to the 'Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Swayam Yojana' for Scheduled Tribe Students.
Nagpur, November 7: The Tribal Development Department of the Government of Maharashtra issued three key government resolutions on November 4, 2026, aimed at fostering the social, economic, and educational development of tribal communities. These include special packages for the Pardhi community and Primitive Tribal Groups (PTGs), as well as significant improvements to the 'Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Swayam Yojana' for students belonging to Scheduled Tribes.
Special Package for the Holistic Development of the Pardhi Community
To end the nomadic lifestyle of the Pardhi community, provide them with stability, and offer livelihood opportunities suited to the current times, a special provision has been made for the 2026-27 financial year. A fund of ?20 crore has been earmarked for the development of the Pardhi community under the 'Nucleus Budget' scheme. Additionally, ?10 crore has been allocated under the 'Thakkar Bappa Tribal Settlement Improvement Scheme' for the development of Pardhi settlements/hamlets. This special package offers a 100% subsidy, with a limit of ?50,000 for individual schemes, and up to ?7.5 lakh for collective schemes (involving two or more beneficiaries). The initiative focuses on employment, skill development, the empowerment of women’s self-help groups, and the provision of basic infrastructure.
Special Package for the Holistic Development of Primitive Tribal Groups
A special package has been approved for the holistic development and mainstreaming of three Primitive Tribal Groups (PTGs) in the state: the Katkari, Kolam, and Madia tribes. Under the 'Nucleus Budget' scheme, a budgetary provision of ?30 crore has been allocated for the year 2026-27, while ?100 crore has been earmarked under the 'Primitive Tribes Development Programme' to undertake essential and developmental projects. Eligible beneficiaries from primitive tribes will receive financial assistance of up to ?50,000 for individual schemes and up to ?7.5 lakh for collective (group) schemes.
Revisions to the 'Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Swayam Yojana'
The 'Swayam Yojana' has been revised to facilitate higher education for students from Scheduled Tribes who have either not secured admission to government hostels or for whom hostel facilities are unavailable. This scheme will apply to courses with a duration of two years or more, pursued after the 10th grade. Project Officer Mr. Umesh Kashid has advised that detailed information regarding the revised grant rates can be obtained from the Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) office.
