Names of nearly 6 lakh voters in Nagpur district to be removed from the list during SIR drive; figure likely to rise
Nagpur: Under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign launched by the Election Commission of India, the names of 5,95,134 voters in Nagpur district are set to be removed from the electoral roll. Administrative sources indicate that this figure is likely to increase further.
There are a total of 46,38,589 voters across Nagpur district. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have reached 42,00,723 of these voters and provided them with voter registration forms. The digitization of forms collected from 29,07,889 voters has already been completed. Even as the process continues, it has become clear that the names of approximately 6 lakh voters will be deleted. Sources stated that the names being removed primarily belong to voters who are deceased or have duplicate registrations.
BLOs have not yet reached the homes of about 4.25 lakh voters. Consequently, the number of voters whose names are removed could rise further.
This campaign in Maharashtra began on June 30 and is scheduled to run until August 17; the deadline had previously been extended twice. Under the SIR drive, BLOs are required to visit every voter's home to collect the necessary forms.

District Collector Kumar Ashirwad held a meeting with BLOs and representatives of political parties, issuing clear instructions to ensure that not a single household is left unvisited. It has been noted that difficulties are arising because many voters have provided incomplete addresses. A request has also been made for all recognized political parties to participate in this process by appointing Booth Level Agents (BLAs).
