Navi Mumbai International Airport welcomes first aircraft, IAF's C-295 lands, saluted with water cannon
Mumbai: Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) today had a historic moment when an Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft successfully landed on its southern runway. The Multi Role Tactical Airlifter (IAF C-295) made the inaugural landing at the airport. This is an important milestone in the development of Adani Group's greenfield international airport. The construction of this airport began in August 2021 during the pandemic and it is scheduled to start in early 2025.
Jeet Adani, Director, Adani Airport Holdings Limited (AAHL), said, "We are proud of the progress made by NMIAL. As AAHL's first greenfield airport, NMIAL represents years of planning, investment and hard work. We are grateful to the Government of Maharashtra, regulatory bodies including CIDCO and Airport Authority of India, and all other stakeholders who have come together to make this project possible. This world-class airport will play a key role in the development of the region and serve as an important hub for travellers from across the world."
The historic event was attended by key dignitaries including Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Ministers Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol and senior officials of Navi Mumbai International Airport Limited and Adani Airport Holdings Limited.
