
No changes will be made in 'Wakf', next hearing on May 5- Supreme Court
Waqf Law SC Hearing: The Supreme Court heard the petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the Wakf (Amendment) Act, 2025 on Wednesday and Thursday. A bench headed by Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna has sought a response from the Central government on the issue of 'Wakf by User' within 7 days.
The Supreme Court has not imposed any ban on the Wakf Act at present. The Center has been given 7 days to file its reply. During this period, no changes will be made in the Wakf and there will be a ban on new appointments in the Wakf Board. The court has said that the petitioners can file their reply to the Center's reply within five days. The next hearing of the matter will be on May 5.
The Supreme Court has ordered on the Wakf Act that there are some positive things in the law and it cannot be completely banned. There will be no change in the current status of the Wakf till further orders. Also, the Chief Justice has said in the order that only 5 writ petitioners will be present in the court from the next hearing. The court has clearly said that all the parties should decide among themselves what their five objections are.
The Supreme Court has given 7 days to the Central Government on the Waqf Act. The status of Waqf properties will not change until the Center responds. This means that this status will remain until the government responds and no new appointments will be made under the new law until further orders.
