Opposition criticizes drought relief announcement; Eknath Shinde urges setting aside politics during a crisis

Pune: Even after the declaration of a drought in the state and the announcement of a relief payment of ?5,000 to each farmer, the opposition has begun to level criticism. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has responded sharply, stating that the opposition’s stance is entirely misguided.
Speaking to reporters in Pune following an event organized by Aba Bagul, Shinde remarked, “It is wrong for the opposition to first demand the declaration of a drought, and then criticize the government once that declaration is made and a relief amount of ?5,000 is announced. It seems the opposition has nothing left to do but criticize.”
He added, “In times of crisis, it is essential for everyone to set aside politics, come together, and stand by our farmers. The drought crisis facing Maharashtra is significant, and the state government is standing firmly behind the farmers with its full strength.”
The government has promptly addressed the farmers' demands by declaring a drought in the state. Furthermore, the cabinet has decided to provide immediate relief by depositing ?5,000 directly into the bank accounts of the farmers. Shinde noted that the central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are also standing firmly with the state during this difficult period.
To ensure that the Diwali festival is not spent in darkness for drought-affected farmers, the distribution of food grains and festive snacks (*faral*) has been initiated. Shinde stated that the Shiv Sena will also provide aid to the drought-affected regions. He further assured that the government will, under any circumstances, make comprehensive arrangements for fodder for livestock and drinking water for the citizens.
