Outer Ring Road Around Nagpur, 4 Transport Hubs – Devendra Fadnavis
– Approval Granted for International Trade and Financial Centre
Mumbai, May 4: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has granted approval for the development of an Outer Ring Road encircling Nagpur city, along with four adjacent transport hubs (Truck and Bus Terminals); the establishment of an International Trade and Financial Centre (IBFC) under the 'New Nagpur' initiative; and the authorization of the Metropolitan Commissioner to execute agreements with HUDCO for both these projects, as well as to raise loans as deemed necessary.
The 11th meeting of the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) was held at the Sahyadri Guest House, presided over by the Chief Minister, who also serves as the Chairman of the NMRDA. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Minister of State Madhuri Misal, and—via video conferencing—Nagpur’s Guardian Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule. Also present were Asim Kumar Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary of the Urban Development Department, O.P. Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary of the Finance Department, along with other concerned officials.
During the meeting, approval was granted to the NMRDA's Revised Estimates for the year 2025-2026, as well as its Budget Estimates for 2026-2027. Furthermore, a resolution was passed to streamline and improve the procedural protocols adopted for passing Authority resolutions through the 'circulation method.'
Approval was also accorded to the proposals submitted by the Maharashtra Urban Infrastructure Fund (MUIF) regarding the provision of funds—in the form of loans under the Maharashtra Urban Infrastructure Development Loan Scheme—to cover the 'own contribution' (state/local share) required for the implementation of various Centrally Sponsored and State Sponsored schemes. Considering the future water requirements of the Nagpur Metropolitan Region, approval was granted to incorporate the acquisition of an additional strip of land—10.0 meters in width and approximately 50.0 kilometers in length—for the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority (NMRDA) into the ongoing land acquisition process for the proposed Wainganga-Nalganga River Linking Project. This project, being implemented by the Water Resources Department, involves laying a water pipeline from the Gosikhurd Irrigation Project to the Nagpur Metropolitan Area.
Furthermore, the Common Seal of the Nagpur Metropolitan Region Development Authority was officially approved, and the Authority granted permission for the use of the NMRDA logo as a registered trademark, complete with copyright protection. It was noted that these measures would provide a significant boost to the infrastructure, economic planning, and long-term urban development of the Nagpur Metropolitan Area.
