Over 5 Lakh High-Quality Turmeric Saplings Ready for Farmers This Year at Vasmat's Balasaheb Thackeray Turmeric Research Center
Hingoli: This year, 500,000 high-quality turmeric saplings have been prepared at the 'Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Turmeric Research, Processing, and Training Center,' located in Vasmat, Hingoli district. Last year, 300,000 saplings were produced; this year, that figure has seen an increase of 200,000.
A key feature of the center is that these saplings will be made available to farmers on a 'no-profit, no-loss' basis. Sales of the saplings are scheduled to commence in the first week of June, and the center anticipates a high volume of demand from farmers.
**13 Major Varieties Available**
Saplings of the following 13 major turmeric varieties will be available at the center:
**Short Duration:** Sudarshana, NDH-8, Pragati, Pitambar
**Medium Duration:** PDKV Waigaon, RH-5, Phule Haridra, SB-10843
**Long Duration:** Salem, Rashmi, Ranga, Medukar, Duggirala Red
**47 Varieties from Across the Country at One Location**
A total of 47 different turmeric varieties from across the country have been collected and preserved at this center. Farmers are also provided with guidance regarding information on these varieties, cultivation techniques, and crop management.
Established in 2022, the center has gained significant momentum since 2025. It plays a pivotal role in boosting turmeric production and ensuring the availability of high-quality planting material (seed rhizomes) for farmers.
