Against this backdrop, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) took action today against a major racket in the Kalyan-Dombivli area that was endangering public health.
During a raid in the Bhoirwadi area of ??Dombivli West, 500 liters of loose, adulterated milk brought from Sangli were seized and destroyed on the spot. The discovery of such a large stock of adulterated milk—especially during the festive season and a time of high daily consumption—has caused a stir in the locality.
According to FDA officials, they had received a tip-off regarding the suspicious arrival of a large quantity of loose milk in the Bhoirwadi area. Acting on this information, the team conducted a raid and inspection; the individual selling the milk was found to lack any official sales license as required by food safety standards. Furthermore, the person could not produce any valid bill or proof of purchase for the milk.
During the inquiry, it was revealed that the 500 liters of adulterated milk were intended for distribution and sale to various local dairies in the Kalyan and Dombivli areas.
The FDA team collected official samples of the milk from the site and sent them to a laboratory for chemical analysis. To ensure the adulterated milk did not reach the public, the remaining stock was immediately destroyed in the presence of officials.
Strict legal proceedings under the Food Safety and Standards Act have been rapidly initiated against the milk seller for endangering citizens' lives.
