Police beat up female students in Latur; Mixed reactions on viral video
A woman traffic police officer stopped three female students who were speeding on a triple-seat bike at Naveen Renapur Naka Chowk in Latur city on Sunday and beat them up, asking them to answer. The video of the incident has gone viral on social media, and there are mixed reactions among the citizens. Although some citizens have supported the duty of the traffic police in this case, some have also criticized it saying, "If punitive action had been taken, there would have been no need for the beating."
According to preliminary information, three girls were speeding on a bike when a woman police officer stationed at the intersection stopped them. Eyewitnesses say that the police personnel beat up the student concerned and also used abusive language, saying, "Call your father, then take the car." According to traffic rules, fines are expected to be imposed on those who are speeding on a triple-seat bike. However, the fact that the police resorted to beatings has raised questions about their methods of operation. The concerned female police officer said, "The speed of the bike was high, so if they had not stopped, there was a possibility of an accident." Meanwhile, it is learnt that senior police officers have started an investigation into the incident.
