Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has sharply criticized the Election Commission amidst the ongoing controversy regarding 'SIR' (Systematic Information and Records). Gandhi termed 'vote theft' a crime against the Indian people and a direct assault on the Constitution. Accusing the BJP, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and the Election Commission of orchestrating this, he labeled it 'treason' and asserted that justice would be served.
The intensity of the controversy escalated following a report claiming that, over the past ten months, two Election Commissioners had recorded objections on 14 occasions regarding various decisions and orders issued by the Election Commission. According to the report, these objections pertained to decisions involving the addition of new voters, the deletion of names from electoral rolls, and other procedural matters.
The Election Commission has dismissed the report, stating that no Election Commissioner had expressed dissent regarding the Commission's decisions. Sources familiar with the matter indicated that while both Commissioners had indeed raised certain points, the Commission subsequently took them into consideration. ECI sources further noted that all decisions made by the Commission bear the signatures of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar as well as Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.
