Remuneration for 7,500 Teachers for Paper Evaluation Held Up; Teachers Grow Aggressive Due to Bank's Delay

Remuneration for Teachers Evaluating Class 12 Answer Sheets Delayed for a Month; Education Board vs. Bank of India Dispute

Mumbai: Approximately 7,500 teachers in the Mumbai division have yet to receive their remuneration for evaluating the answer sheets of the State Education Board's Class 12 examinations. Although a month has passed since the results were declared, teachers remain deprived of the money rightfully due to them. Consequently, teacher associations have expressed strong displeasure and have issued a warning of agitation.
The Mumbai Divisional Education Board had deposited funds amounting to approximately ?2 crore into the Vashi branch of the Bank of India to cover the remuneration of 9,800 teachers. These funds were transferred in three tranches during the months of April and May. However, the money has been credited to the accounts of only 2,000 teachers; the remaining teachers are still waiting.
Prof. Mukund Andhalkar, General Secretary of the Mumbai Divisional Junior College Teachers' Association, stated, "Although the Education Board released the funds on time, this situation has arisen solely due to the bank's delay. While students are penalized for paying fees late, teachers receive no compensation whatsoever when their remuneration is held up."
The teacher associations have put forth the following demands:
An inquiry into the bank's conduct should be initiated, and penalties should be imposed.
Teachers must be paid their remuneration immediately, along with accrued interest.
The bank should be changed to prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
This year, the Class 12 results were declared on May 2nd. Typically, teachers receive their remuneration immediately following the declaration of results; however, this year, thousands of teachers are facing financial hardships due to the bank's mismanagement.
