Rethare Dam Engineer Amol Patil Dies of Swine Flu; Infection Likely Contracted in Kolhapur
Rethare Dam (Taluka Walwa): Amol Jaywant Patil (50), an engineer at Rethare Dam, passed away early Thursday morning due to swine flu. He had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Miraj for the past ten days.
Amol Patil had started experiencing a cough and fever ten to twelve days prior. While undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Islampur, he exhibited pneumonia-like symptoms and was subsequently referred to a hospital in Sangli. Following this, he underwent medical examinations in Kolhapur and began treatment at a private hospital in Miraj.
Tests confirmed the presence of the swine flu (H1N1) virus in his system. He passed away early Thursday morning while undergoing treatment. His last rites were performed at Rethare Dam on Thursday morning. He is survived by his wife (Gram Panchayat member Bharati Patil), mother, two children, a brother, and an uncle.
According to doctors, Amol Patil was initially admitted to the hospital due to abdominal complaints and had undergone an endoscopy in Kolhapur. Doctors suspect that he may have contracted the swine flu infection either at the hospital in Kolhapur or during his travels. Dr. Pruthviraj Methe stated that his condition became critical due to kidney and bladder dysfunction following the H1N1 infection ten to fifteen days ago.
There have been previous instances of deaths due to swine flu in the Rethare Dam area. In 2013, hotel owner Uttam Ramchandra Patil and Vaishali Ashok Patil had succumbed to the disease. Amol Patil's death has once again sparked discussions about swine flu in the locality.
