Revolutionary step in the budget for women: 25 lakh sisters will become lakhpatis in a year!

Mumbai: During the presentation of the budget of Maharashtra for 2026-27, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis made many important announcements for the upliftment of women. Speaking in the Legislative Assembly, he assured further implementation of the 'Ladki Bahin' scheme, taking a big step towards women empowerment. Expanding the 'Lakhpati Didi' scheme especially for women in rural areas, he announced the goal of making 25 lakh sisters lakhpatis in a year.
Under this scheme, which was successful under the Maharashtra Rural Livelihoods Improvement Mission (MRLM), 37 lakh women have so far been recognized as 'Lakhpati Didi'. Now, Fadnavis clarified that there are plans to include another 25 lakh women in this successful scheme in the financial year 2026-27. He expressed confidence that this will give a boost to the economic empowerment of rural women.
In addition, important steps are being taken to provide a market for the products of women's self-help groups (SHGs). In the first phase, approval has been given to set up 'Umed Mall District Sales Centers' in 13 districts. The Chief Minister said that through these centers, the sale of handicrafts, handlooms and other items of self-help groups will increase, which will increase the income of women.
Special attention is also being paid to the welfare of single women. A survey of single women is currently underway in all districts across the state, and after its completion, a special policy will be prepared after a thorough analysis. This policy will provide facilities like health, education, housing and financial assistance to single women.
These announcements of women empowerment have given new strength to the policies of the BJP government. After the budget presentation, these schemes have been welcomed in the Legislative Assembly, and are also receiving positive responses from the opposition parties. Chief Minister Fadnavis expressed his determination to make Maharashtra a frontline state by empowering women.
