Rs 152 Crore Credited to the Accounts of 3.05 Lakh Farmers
Nagpur, November 6: A drought-like situation has emerged this year due to deficient rainfall and low groundwater levels. Drought has been declared across all talukas in the district. The lack of rainfall has also adversely affected Kharif crops. To provide relief to farmers, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had announced that Rs 5,000 would be credited to each farmer's account before Diwali. Accordingly, funds have now been deposited into the accounts of over 3.05 lakh farmers.
Rainfall was lower this year due to the 'El Niño' effect, which impacted crops such as cotton, soybean, and pigeon pea (tur). Farmers in most areas have experienced a decline in yields. Furthermore, the Rabi and summer crops are also expected to be negatively affected. In light of this, the government has declared a drought situation and initiated various relief measures to support the farmers.
