Samruddhi Highway: Puncture of vehicle tires due to nails driven on the road, conspiracy or mistake?

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, September 10, 2025: A shocking incident has come to light on the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Highway, one of the most important and modern roads in Maharashtra. A large number of nails were found on the road between Sawangi and Jambhala interchange on this highway, due to which the tires of many vehicles were punctured. This incident has created fear and anger among motorists, and questions are being raised about whether this is a well-planned conspiracy or a mistake.
What exactly happened?
Late on Tuesday night and early on Wednesday, many vehicles had to stop suddenly on the Mumbai-bound lane of Samruddhi Highway. This is because a large number of sharp nails were driven on the road surface. These nails punctured the tires of many vehicles, causing great difficulties for commuters. A video of this incident has gone viral on social media, in which the nails driven in rows on the road are clearly visible. The video was shot at night and shows vehicles moving slowly from the side lanes.
MSRDC clarification
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has issued an immediate clarification on the matter. According to them, the incident was not part of any conspiracy but a mistake made during the road repair work. Minor cracks were found on two lanes near chain numbers 442+460 of Samruddhi Highway. Epoxy grouting technique was used to fill these cracks, in which aluminum nozzles were temporarily installed on the road. MSRDC has admitted that these nozzles have caused punctures in the tyres of some vehicles.
An MSRDC official said, “These nozzles were installed on a 10-20 feet long asphalt surface near Daulatabad. The problem arose when some vehicles passed through it before the repair work was completed.” The MSRDC also stated that all the nozzles were removed by 5 am on September 10 and traffic has now returned to normal. Also, action is being taken against the contractor responsible for the incident.
Drivers' anger and fear
The incident has caused great discontent among drivers. Many have considered the incident a conspiracy and have expressed suspicion that this conspiracy may have been hatched for crimes like robbery. A driver said, "If the nails are driven like this at night, any criminal can get an opportunity to rob. Our safety is at risk." Some passengers have also questioned the negligence of the administration. According to them, proper precautions were not taken during the repair work, such as closing the road or giving instructions to drivers.
