Sanjay Mukherjee will be the new DGP of West Bengal

Kolkata. The Election Commission on Tuesday appointed IPS Sanjay Mukherjee as the new Director General of Police (DGP) of West Bengal. A day earlier, the Commission had removed West Bengal DGP Rajiv Kumar and Home Secretaries of 6 states from the post.
After this the Commission had sought three names from the state government. The government had given the names of Vivek Sahay, Sanjay Mukherjee and Rajesh Kumar. After the removal of Rajiv Kumar, Vivek Sahay took over as interim DGP for a day.
Apart from this, IAS Deepak Kumar has been made the new Home Secretary of UP. The UP government had sent the names of 3 IAS officers Manoj Singh, Devesh Chaturvedi and Deepak Kumar to the Election Commission. Home Secretary Sanjay Prasad was removed from the post 24 hours ago.
Sanjay Mukherjee is a 1989 batch IPS officer and till now was handling the responsibility of the fire department. At the same time, former DGP Rajeev Kumar has been made Secretary in the Information and Technology Department. According to the Election Commission, these steps have been taken to conduct transparent and fair elections. The Election Commission on Tuesday had also ordered the removal of Home Secretaries of 6 states.
