Sanjay Raut tenders unconditional apology to the Supreme Court

Mumbai: Following the Supreme Court’s directive for his personal appearance on November 17, Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction) MP Sanjay Raut has tendered an unconditional apology regarding his remarks concerning Justice Surya Kant and the Supreme Court. He has filed an affidavit to this effect in the Supreme Court. In the affidavit, Raut stated that he fully understands the importance of upholding the dignity, independence, and authority of the court. He asserted that he had no intention of insulting the court or undermining the dignity, independence, or authority of the judiciary. He further clarified that this apology is offered unconditionally, unreservedly, and voluntarily. However, as no counsel appeared on behalf of Raut during the hearing held on Wednesday (October 28), his apology was not formally recorded by the court. In light of this, the Supreme Court has directed Sanjay Raut to appear in person on November 17. On that date, the court will consider his apology and pass an appropriate order. Previously, the Supreme Court had issued a contempt notice to Raut over his remarks directed at Justice Surya Kant, following which he submitted an apology via an affidavit.
