Sanjeev Khanna will be the new CJI

Supreme Court CJI : Chief Justice D. Y Chandrachud has recommended the name for the post of the next Chief Justice. He has written a letter to the Central Government regarding this. Accordingly, Justice Sanjeev Khanna has been recommended as his successor. There is a possibility that popular judges among lawyers in the state will be appointed as Chief Justice.
The present Chief Justice D. Y Chandrachud's term is ending in the month of November. According to a report, he has recommended the name of Justice Sanjeev Khanna as the next Chief Justice. He is currently the second most senior judge. take Khanna will retire in May 2025. That means they will get a tenure of six months for this post. He started practicing law in 1983. After that the country will soon have a second SC Chief Justice. There is a possibility that a popular judge among the advocates of the state will be appointed as the Chief Justice.
The name of the next CJI is firm
Chief Justice DY Chandrachud has written a letter to the central government. He has recommended the name of Justice Sanjiv Khanna as his successor. Chief Justice Chandrachud became a Supreme Court judge on 13 May 2016. Justice Khanna became a Supreme Court judge on 18 January 2019. Earlier he served on High Court and other Tribunals.

NALSA stands for the date of retirement of Judges appearing on the official website of National Legal Services Authority. Accordingly, Justice Khanna is retiring on 13 May 2025. If he takes over the post of Chief Justice in the month of November, he will serve in this position for six months.

The name of Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai is being discussed to succeed Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna. He can assume charge of the post in May 2025. He will be the second Scheduled Caste Chief Justice of the country. Earlier, Justice KG Balakrishna was the first SC Chief Justice of the country. He retired on 11 May 2010.

Justice BR Gavai will have a tenure of 6 months on the charge of the post of Chief Justice. After that he will retire. According to the Supreme Court website, he started practicing on March 16, 1985. He advocated in the Nagpur bench. Justice Gavai will retire on November 23, 2025. Justice Suryakant's name is being discussed for this post after him.
