Security Cut at Abhishek Banerjee's Residence Following TMC Defeat; Major Relief for Locals

Kolkata: Following the Trinamool Congress (TMC)'s significant defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections, security arrangements outside 'Shanti Niketan'—the Kolkata residence of TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee (nephew of Mamata Banerjee)—have been drastically scaled back. The area, which previously saw the deployment of 300 to 350 police personnel, has now returned to a state of calm.
In the wake of the election results, the security contingent stationed outside Abhishek Banerjee's home is being gradually withdrawn. The security infrastructure and barricades positioned outside the residence have also been removed. Consequently, the roads in the vicinity have been cleared and are now accessible to the general public.
Neighbors' Reactions:
Local residents are pleased with this change. One local remarked, "They built such a massive bungalow, yet did nothing for us. On the contrary, they engaged in intimidation tactics. Previously, the sheer crowd of police personnel made it difficult even to walk on the streets. Now, the atmosphere is peaceful, and we can move around freely. This change is extremely positive."
Following the TMC's defeat, the political landscape in the state has undergone a complete transformation. The BJP has paved the way to form the government by winning 207 seats, while Mamata Banerjee had to accept defeat in the Bhabanipur constituency.
Against this backdrop, the additional security detail (beyond his standard 'Z+' category protection) stationed outside Abhishek Banerjee's residence has been withdrawn. However, his core security cover remains intact.
This development is being viewed as a symbolic marker of the end of the TMC's 15-year reign. It has brought a sense of relief to many, including the local residents.
