Sensex tumbles, falls 800 degrees, all stocks close in red
Sensex Collapse: On the last trading day of the week i.e. Friday, the Indian stock market closed lower. The market saw a decline for the second day in a row. Markets saw selling pressure due to poor global cues. Today's trade saw selling in banking and realty stocks. While consumer staples and IT stocks were under pressure. At the close of trade, the Sensex closed down 671.15 points, or 1.12 percent, at 59,135.13 points. The Nifty closed down 176.70 points, or 1 percent, at 17,412.90. Investors lost Rs 1.6 lakh crore today due to this decline.
Adani Enterprises, HDFC Bank, Apollo Hospitals, SBI and HDFC were the top losers on the Nifty in Friday's trade. While Tata Motors, NTPC, Maruti Suzuki, Britannia Industries and BPCL were the top gainers in the Nifty.
1.6 lakh crore loss in a single day
Investors lost Rs 1.6 lakh crore in a single day. Today, the total market capitalization of BSE-listed companies fell to Rs 262.70 lakh crore on March 10, as against Rs. 264.30 lakh crores. Thus, the market cap of BSE-listed companies has declined by around Rs 1.6 lakh crore today.
Market opening status
The effect of the decline in the American stock market was seen on the Mumbai stock market today. In the opening sessions, the Sensex fell 800 degrees to open at around 59.081.74 degrees. The Nifty opened at 17,394.30, registering a decline of 195 degrees. The stock market started off weak today.
Today's Nifty tap losers include stocks like Adani Enterprises, Hindalco, Tech Mahindra, ICICI Bank and Anxis Bank. Nifty top gainers include Tata Motors, Britannia, Bajaj Auto. Bank Nifty also fell by 1.68 percent. Nifty Auto, Nifty FMCG also closed in the red. Nifty Financial Services fell by 1.69 percent, Nifty IT by 1.14 percent.
In fact, on Thursday, Wall Street's major index Dow Jones lost 543 points to close at 32254. The S&P 500 was down 1.85 points. The Nasdaq fell 2.05 percent or 237 points to close at 11338.
Adani Group shares under pressure
The shares of Adani Group, which has been in recovery for the past few days, are seeing a bounce back once again. All the stocks in the group, except Adani Green and Adani Transmission, saw declines in the opening session.
