Simultaneous crashes from Ransi to Bengaluru: Major technical glitch in airline systems
Mumbai/Delhi/Bengaluru, December 4: Air traffic has completely collapsed since Wednesday morning due to a sudden major technical glitch in the computer systems of major airports across the country. More than 215 flights from cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata etc. were cancelled, while most of the remaining flights were delayed by 3 to 8 hours.
The glitch was first seen at the Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi at around 6.30 am. After that, the entire check-in system of Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport came to a standstill within a few minutes. Delhi, Hyderabad and Bengaluru airports were also badly affected.
As important processes like online and counter check-in, boarding pass printing, baggage tagging were completely shut down, airlines had to write boarding passes manually. This created huge chaos at the airport. Passengers did not get a clear explanation as to why the flight was delayed, leading to anger at many places and sloganeering at some places.
Megha Ladole, a passenger coming from Hyderabad to Mumbai, said, “My 12 midnight flight left at 8 am. As a result, I completely missed my connecting flight from Mumbai to the US. Now I have to arrange a new ticket to leave tomorrow at 4 am. A total delay of 28 hours!”
Although airline officials have called the glitch a “technical glitch”, according to sources, some experts have expressed the possibility of a large-scale cyber attack. It is estimated that the simultaneous attack on the main server in the data center has affected the airport network across the country.
Currently, officials of major airlines such as IndiGo, Air India, Vistara, SpiceJet, along with the Union Civil Aviation Ministry and the Cyber ??Cell teams are involved in the investigation. The airport administration has informed that passengers may face some inconvenience in the next 24 hours.
