Smuggling of Goan Liquor Worth ?52 Lakhs Foiled on Solapur-Beed Road; Truck with Secret Compartments Seized, One Suspect Arrested

Beed (March 15, 2026): In a major operation conducted on the Solapur-Beed road in the Chausala taluka of Beed district, the Excise Department has seized foreign-made liquor manufactured in Goa. This illicit liquor is valued at ?51,88,520 (approximately ?52 lakhs) and had been concealed within the truck inside specially constructed secret compartments.
Acting on a confidential tip-off received on March 12, 2026, a team from the Excise Department inspected a six-wheeled truck bearing the registration number MH 23 AU 7275. While the truck appeared completely ordinary from the outside, its interior was packed with secret compartments specifically designed for the smuggling of liquor. Inside these compartments, the team discovered 200 boxes of foreign-made liquor manufactured in Goa. The sale and transportation of this specific type of liquor are strictly prohibited within the state of Maharashtra.
This successful operation was carried out under the leadership of Excise Deputy Commissioner Vishwajit Deshmukh and Inspector Sanjay Kangane. The truck has been seized, and one suspect has been taken into custody; a case has been registered against the individual at the Beed Excise Department.
Speaking on the matter, Deputy Commissioner Vishwajit Deshmukh stated, "We are fully committed to completely curbing the illegal transportation of liquor. If citizens provide information regarding such activities, their identities will be kept strictly confidential, and they will be duly encouraged."
This operation was made possible due to the vigilance of the Beed Excise Department, and such campaigns to prevent the illegal smuggling of liquor within the district are being intensified.
