Students beaten up for being late and not having water; Demand to register a case against a teacher at Jawhar school
Jawhar, November 20, 2025: A shocking incident has come to light in which a teacher at a Zilla Parishad school in Jawhar taluka of Thane district brutally beat up students for coming to school late and for not bringing water. This brutal incident has sparked a wave of anger among the villagers in tribal-dominated areas, and there is a strong demand for immediate action from parents. Although the investigation into the matter is underway, the locals have threatened to close the school.
The detailed description of the incident is as follows: Teacher Ganesh Patil targeted several students from classes 1 to 7 studying in Zonal Parishad School (Jawhar taluka). The students came to school a little late and forgot their water bottles or brought them late, so instead of giving them a warning first, they were directly beaten up with their hands and other objects. One student was seriously injured in this and has been admitted to a nearby rural hospital. Other students have also found it difficult to come to school due to injuries from the beating. The names of the injured students have been kept confidential, but all of them are from poor tribal families.
Although teacher Ganesh Patil has admitted the incident, he says that the decision was taken due to the students’ constant lateness and lack of discipline. However, this is being rejected by parents and locals. “Such cruel behaviour will not be tolerated. Teachers should encourage students, not beat them. We do not want to close the school, but if no action is taken, it will be inevitable,” said a member of the local parents’ association.
Following the incident, parents and villagers held a protest meeting outside the school. The Zilla Parishad Education Department has immediately appointed an inquiry team and is likely to recommend suspension of the teacher. Notably, similar complaints had been received in this area before, but no strict action was taken. Now, however, demands for transfer of the teacher, registration of a case and compensation from parents are intensifying.
Educationist's view: "School is a place for teaching discipline, not violence. Such incidents are indicative of a lack of teacher training. The department should intervene immediately," said an official of an educational institution in Mumbai.
While following up on this matter, we are trying to get official information from the department. Readers, to register a complaint regarding such incidents, you should contact the Zilla Parishad Education Department.
