Supreme Court gives green signal to 'Ungaludan Stalin' program started in the name of CM in Tamil Nadu, fined Rs 10 lakh on petitioner
Tamil Nadu: - The Supreme Court has approved the Tamil Nadu government's 'Ungaludan Stalin' i.e. 'Stalin with you' program. The court has dismissed the petition pending in the Madras High Court against this program. Also, a fine of Rs 10 lakh has also been imposed on the petitioner. The Supreme Court said that the petitioner misused the judicial process for political fight.
'Ungaludan Stalin' is a plan to set up special camps to make the benefits of Tamil Nadu government's health schemes reach the people. AIADMK MP CV Shanmugam had filed a petition against this in the Madras High Court. Shanmugam had said that naming a government program after Chief Minister Stalin is against the rules. Hearing the petition, the Madras High Court had put a stay on this program. The Tamil Nadu government and the ruling party DMK had approached the Supreme Court against this.
The bench headed by Chief Justice Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai said that Shanmugam's petition was based on incorrect information about the law. The Supreme Court's decision in the 'Common Cause' case was against the promotion of a political party with government money. Later, the Supreme Court itself allowed the use of the Chief Minister's photo in government advertisements. The court also mentioned a list of 45 schemes being run by the Tamil Nadu government in the name of political leaders across the country. The judges said that such naming is happening all over the country.
After this, the Supreme Court raised serious questions on Shanmugam's conduct. The Chief Justice said that the petitioner first gave a memorandum to the Election Commission, but he did not wait for the order of the Commission. Within 3 days, a petition was filed in the High Court. This is a misuse of the judicial process. This is an example of using the court for political fight. Not only this, the petitioner also made controversial statements about the Election Commission.
At the end of the hearing, the Supreme Court said that it is dismissing the petition pending in the Madras High Court. A fine of Rs 10 lakh is being imposed on the petitioner. He should deposit this amount with the Tamil Nadu government within a week. This amount should be used in welfare schemes.
