Nagpur: Expressing strong opposition to the government proposal for the sub-categorization of Scheduled Caste (SC) reservations, 27 MLAs—including two ministers—met the Chief Minister and submitted a signed memorandum.
Moves to implement sub-categorization, based on the report submitted by the Justice Anant Badar Committee, are facing opposition from the Mahar and Charmakar communities, while the Matang community supports the move. Both sides are engaging in mutual accusations and protests regarding this issue.
During a meeting held in the Chief Minister's office on Monday, MLAs belonging to Scheduled Castes registered their firm opposition. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has assured them that a meeting regarding this matter will be convened.

Leaders such as Anandraj Ambedkar (Republican Sena), Bhimrao Ambedkar (Buddhist Mahasabha), former Social Justice Minister Rajkumar Badole, and former Minister Babanrao Gholap will lead the march. A large number of activists from across Maharashtra have set out for Mumbai. Most of the opposing MLAs are expected to participate in this march.
Discussion in the Legislative Assembly
The opposition parties are set to move an adjournment motion on this issue in the Legislative Assembly tomorrow, and a short-duration discussion is likely to take place on July 6.
