Demand of Jain Federation of Tamil Nadu
Chennai. People of other communities along with Jain community are continuously protesting across the country regarding the decision to declare Shri Sammed Shikharji as a 'sacred' tourist destination. Seeing the matter increasing, the Central and Jharkhand Government have issued their statements and in the notification issued by the Union Ministry of Environment, instructions have been given to ban all tourism and eco-tourism activities. At the same time, representatives of the Tamil Nadu Jain Federation protested against the government's decision in Chennai.
Representatives of the Jain federation said that they welcome the Centre's decision and demanded that the Jharkhand government designate it as a holy place and hand it over to the community. He said that the Jain community has been opposing the Jharkhand government's tourism policy, which aims to develop Shri Sammed Shikharji as a tourist destination in the Parasnath hills.
Jharkhand minister Banna Gupta said that he agrees with the decision of the central government, Shri Sammed Shikhar should remain a religious place. Also said that our government respects their (Jain community) sentiments. The CM and the government will not act against the sentiments of any community, religion.
