Thiruvananthapuram: Today marks a historic day for the Congress party in Kerala. Following a resounding victory in the Assembly elections, the United Democratic Front (UDF) is set to form the government today. Senior Congress leader V.D. Satheesan will take the oath as the new Chief Minister of Kerala at 10:00 AM this morning.
Along with him, a cabinet comprising 20 other ministers will also be sworn in. A total of 21 ministers (the Chief Minister plus 20 others) will take the oath today. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Central Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram at 10:00 AM.
Rahul Gandhi has departed from Delhi for Kerala, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is also expected to attend the ceremony. Additionally, Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled states, leaders of alliance partners, and thousands of party workers will be present.
Key Highlights of the Cabinet:
Out of the 20 ministers, 14 are new faces (assuming ministerial office for the first time).
A blend of experienced leaders and the new generation.
Inclusion of women representatives, leaders from Scheduled Castes, alliance partners, and various diverse communities.
11 ministers represent the Congress party.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Satheesan stated, "After 60 years, the entire UDF cabinet is taking the oath together. This is an unprecedented event in the history of Kerala. We have completed this entire process within just 24 hours."
In the elections, the UDF delivered a major blow to the CPI(M)-led LDF by winning 102 out of the 140 Assembly seats. After a gap of 10 years—following the tenure of Pinarayi Vijayan—the UDF is returning to power.
The formation of this government is being hailed as a new beginning for the Congress party and the UDF in the political landscape of Kerala.
