Under the leadership of Vijay Wadettiwar, Congress defeated 5 BJP MLAs.
Chandrapur, December 21, 2025: The Congress party has achieved a historic victory in the elections for 10 municipal councils and 1 nagar panchayat in Chandrapur district. Congress hoisted its flag on 7 out of the total 11 municipal councils, while the BJP suffered a major setback. Despite having 5 MLAs in the district, the Congress defeated them in their respective constituencies. This victory is attributed to the skillful planning of Vijay Wadettiwar, the MLA from Brahmapuri constituency and the leader of the legislative party.
According to the election results, Congress seized power in the Brahmapuri, Ballarpur, Mul, Nagbhid, Ghugus, Warora, and Rajura municipal councils. In particular, in the Brahmapuri municipal council, Congress's mayor Yogesh Misar and 21 out of 23 corporators were victorious. BJP and NCP secured only one seat each.
Vijay Wadettiwar said, "This victory is not of any one leader, but of the hard work of every party worker and the strength of the organization. The people have rejected the anti-people policies of the Mahayuti government. This mandate is against the oppression of farmers, the insult to democracy, and the deception in the name of development."
Congress has undermined the strongholds of BJP MLAs Sudhir Mungantiwar, Kirtikumar Bhangadia, Kishore Jorgewar, Karan Devtale, and others. This victory of Congress in the district is considered a prelude to the upcoming Zilla Parishad and Municipal Corporation elections.
After the results were declared, Congress workers celebrated in Chandrapur city by showering colored powder and bursting firecrackers. Wadettiwar was given the responsibility of the Nagpur division, and he delivered resounding success for the party.
