Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation Election 2026: Hitendra Thakur's Bahujan Vikas Aghadi retains power, BJP settles for 44 seats

Municipal Corporation - Vasai Virar: In the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation elections, the Bahujan Vikas Aghadi (BVA) has secured a clear majority. The party led by Hitendra Thakur won 71 out of 115 seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured victory in 44 seats. The Shinde faction of Shiv Sena got only one seat, while the Uddhav Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena and the Congress could not win a single seat.
This election was closely watched, as the Thakur family had suffered a defeat in the assembly elections. However, the BVA managed to retain its stronghold. The BJP made a strong effort, with many leaders joining the party, but they could not bring about a change in power.
In this election, held after about 10 years, 547 candidates were in the fray across 29 wards, of which 386 were from political parties and 156 were independent candidates. The confidence expressed by Thakur proved true – power was retained despite changes within the party.
This result shows that the BVA's hold on Vasai-Virar remains strong.
