Vehicle damaged or mileage dropped due to E-20 petrol? File a complaint and action will be taken; assures CM Pramod Sawant
Goa: Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant assured the Legislative Assembly on Tuesday that if vehicles have suffered damage or experienced a drop in mileage due to E-20 petrol sold in the state, citizens should lodge a complaint with the Civil Supplies Department. He promised that complaints would be taken seriously and acted upon, and that regular laboratory testing and inspections of the petrol would be conducted.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Venzy Viegas drew the government's attention to the impact of E-20 petrol through a calling-attention motion. Claiming that the fuel affects vehicles manufactured before 2023, he stated that ordinary vehicle owners are facing difficulties due to reduced mileage, decreased performance, and increased maintenance costs. He noted that taxi drivers and two-wheeler riders, in particular, are bearing the brunt of this issue.
Chief Minister Sawant explained that the policy regarding E-20 fuel is formulated by the Central Government, and the State Government is implementing it in accordance with the Centre's guidelines. While some complaints have surfaced since the introduction of E-20 in the state in 2023, there has been no large-scale reporting of issues so far. Nevertheless, he clarified that regular checks on fuel quality would be carried out.
During the discussion, Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao and MLAs Vijai Sardesai, Viresh Borkar, and Cruz Silva raised various points. Sardesai demanded that citizens be given a choice between E-10 and E-20 petrol, while Cruz Silva sought compensation or the option of pure petrol. Viresh Borkar highlighted the additional financial burden being placed on the budgets of common citizens.
