
World's fastest "bag claim" system to be implemented - Devendra Fadnavis
Raigad, Date 12:- The Chief Minister today instructed the concerned persons here that the world's fastest "bag claim" system should be developed at the Navi Mumbai International Airport, which should be the main feature of this airport. At present, 94 percent of the work of this airport has been completed and the remaining six percent work will be completed by September 2025 and the first passenger plane will fly, he assured.
He was speaking here today while visiting the place to inspect the progress of the work at the Navi Mumbai International Airport.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde along with all other dignitaries inspected the ongoing work of Navi Mumbai International Airport. During this inspection, they especially reviewed the facilities provided to air passengers.
After inspecting the works here, Chief Minister Fadnavis informed the media representatives about the current status of the project that on June 10, 2022, CIDCO has granted 100% access and right-of-way to NMIAL for the entire area of 1,160 hectares. All rehabilitation has been completed and CIDCO has spent approximately Rs 2,000 crore for land acquisition and rehabilitation.
The company Navi Mumbai International Airport Private Limited (NMIAL) achieved financial closure for the project on March 29, 2022, in which SBI has provided Rs 19,647 crore for Phase-1 and Phase-2 of Navi Mumbai International Airport. Out of the total project cost, Rs 12,770 crore has been provided by the company. (Rs. 15 thousand 981 crore by NMIAL and Rs. 3 thousand 665 crore by CIDCO)
Pre-development works such as land development up to 5.5 meters in an area of 1 thousand 160 hectares, diversion of Ulwe river and relocation of high-voltage power lines have been completed by CIDCO.
On October 11, 2024, the inaugural landing was made by an Indian Air Force transport aircraft C-295 at Navi Mumbai International Airport, followed by two low passes by SU 30. Also, the first commercial landing was successfully completed by an Airbus A320 of IndiGo Airlines at Navi Mumbai International Airport on December 29, 2024.
As of June 30, 2025, the project has achieved a total physical progress of 96.5%. Currently, about 13 thousand employees are working here, while more employees should be appointed to complete the remaining work. And in any case, instructions have been given to all agencies to complete this work before September.
The Navi Mumbai International Airport, which has a capacity of 20 million passengers and 0.8 million metric tons of cargo in phases 1 and 2, is getting ready to be operational in September 2025.
He concluded by saying that he is particularly happy that the ground-breaking ceremony of this airport was held by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and that it will now be inaugurated by him.
