Army vehicle plunges into gorge in Jammu and Kashmir; 10 soldiers martyred, 11 injured

J&K's Doda: Bhaderwah (Jammu and Kashmir): A tragic accident occurred today (January 22, 2026) afternoon near Khani Top on the Bhaderwah-Chamba road in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir. A bulletproof Casper vehicle of the Indian Army lost control due to bad weather and the treacherous road conditions in the remote area and plunged into a gorge approximately 200 feet deep. In this accident, 10 soldiers were martyred, and 11 were injured.
The vehicle was en route to a high-altitude post and had a total of 21 soldiers on board. Immediately after the accident, rescue and relief operations were launched. Teams from the army and local administration reached the spot, and the injured were provided with immediate medical assistance. The injured soldiers have been airlifted to a hospital in Udhampur. An investigation into the cause of the accident is underway, with preliminary assessments suggesting that road conditions and weather played a significant role.
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his grief over the incident. He said on social media, "I am deeply saddened by the loss of 10 brave soldiers in the accident in Doda.
