Passengers' response to ST's NCMC Smart Card: Over 1 lakh registrations in a week

Mumbai, February 28, 2026: The 'NCMC Smart Card' scheme launched by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (ST) is receiving a huge response from passengers. This step taken towards digital services is proving to be convenient for concessionary passengers, and the number of registrations has crossed 1 lakh in just a week. Transport Minister and ST Corporation Chairman Pratap Sarnaik has expressed satisfaction over this. He said that this number is an important milestone in ST's journey of digital transformation.
A total of 1,00,021 passengers have registered under this scheme. Out of this, a large share is from the beneficiaries of the Mahila Samman Yojana, with 37,927 women applying for smart cards. Under the Amrut Senior Citizen Scheme, 34,948 senior citizens have registered, while other senior citizens are categorized as 24,927 and other passengers are categorized as 2,219. These figures show that passengers from different walks of life are turning towards digital transformation.
The ST Corporation has clarified that this scheme is not just a change in technology, but an attempt to make the journey of passengers easier, safer and more transparent. This registration shows that passengers are eager to move away from traditional cash transactions and adopt digital means.
Regarding the rumors spread on social media, the corporation has clarified that smart cards will not be mandatory from March 1. This compulsion will not be implemented until 80 percent of the concessionaires are registered. However, passengers have been urged to register at the nearest bus station, depot or authorized agent.
In the future, this NCMC smart card will make ticket purchase easier for concessionaires and a single card can be used for various public transport. This initiative of ST is a strong step towards Digital Maharashtra, and this journey based on the trust of passengers is moving forward rapidly, said Sarnaik.
