Five forest dams to overcome water scarcity

Nagpur, Dt. 6: It is planned to construct at least five Vanrai dams till November 30 under each Panchayat Samiti in the district. By constructing about three thousand dams in the district, a maximum of nine thousand TCM of water storage will be available. Through this it will be possible to overcome water scarcity.
This campaign is being implemented under the guidance of Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Saumya Sharma. At present Vanrai Dam is being constructed in the district and Adasa, Berdepar and Kharada under Mauda Panchayat Samiti, Rampuri and Widhu under Savner Panchayat Samiti, Salwa under Kuhi, Varoda under Kalameshwar, Mendki, Naigaon and Gaudidigrus under Katol, Wagdhara and Gumgaon under Hingana, Umred Under Haldgaon and Pipla, Kadholi under Kamthi, Chargaon under Parshivani, Banpuri, Nia-1, Siva, Dhamana, Linga under Panchayat Samiti Nagpur (Rural), forest dams have been constructed through public participation and the rest are in progress.
Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad Soumya Sharma has issued a circular on April 21 to conserve the available water stock at the village level by constructing Vanrai Dam. Under this, in order to avoid water shortage in Nagpur district in the year 2023-24, guidance has been given to conserve water by increasing the water storage in the drains, rivers, dams and lakes within the boundaries of Gram Panchayat at the village level. For this purpose, Vanrai embankment, which is constructed in crude type, plays an important role. Therefore, it is planned to collect the empty bags of cement available from the ongoing construction at the village level and fill them with sand, soil, stones with the participation of the people to construct Vanrai Dam to block the water in the drains or streams.
